Getting started
What is Rabt?
Rabt (ربط, "connection") is an app for chats, voice and video calls, and live audio lounges with the people in your phonebook.
How do I sign up?
Open the app and enter your phone number. We text you a six-digit code; type it in, add your name, and you're in. There's no password.
I didn't get my code.
Check the number you typed, including the country. Codes can take a minute to arrive. You can ask for a new one after a short wait. If you ask for many codes in a row, you may need to wait a while before trying again.
Is there an iPhone app?
Rabt is launching soon on both Android and iPhone. Keep an eye on the Download page.
Who can I talk to on Rabt?
Anyone who has Rabt. If you let Rabt use your contacts, it shows you who in your phonebook is already on Rabt. A first message from someone new arrives as a message request, which you can accept or block.
Chats and privacy
Can Rabt read my chats?
No. One-to-one and group chats are end-to-end encrypted: only the phones of the people in the chat can read them. Our servers only pass on encrypted messages.
Are my chats backed up?
Only if you turn it on. In Profile, open Chat backup and switch it on. Rabt encrypts your messages, and photos if you want, on your phone with a key only you have, then keeps the encrypted copy. Save the recovery key it shows you: with it, your chats can be restored on a new phone. Backups run on Wi-Fi unless you allow mobile data. If you turn backup off, your last backup is kept for 30 days, then deleted.
Can I use Rabt chats on two phones?
Not at the same time. Chats work on one phone at a time. When you start using chats on a new phone, the chats on the old phone are deleted there, and your contacts are told your security code changed.
Why can't I see when someone was last online?
They may have chosen to show it only to their contacts, or to nobody. It also works both ways: if you hide yours, you won't see anyone else's.
How do I stop photos using my mobile data?
In the app, go to Profile, then Photo downloads, and choose Only on Wi-Fi or Never. You can always tap a photo to download it.
How do I block or report someone?
Open the chat and use the menu at the top. Blocking stops their messages and calls. Reporting sends Rabt the last five messages they sent you, so we can review them.
Calls and lounges
Are calls end-to-end encrypted?
No. Calls are encrypted between your phone and Rabt's media servers, which pass the audio and video on to the others in the call. See the Security page for details.
What is a lounge?
A live audio room. A host runs it, speakers talk on stage, and everyone else listens. You can host your own or join one.
What is Happening now?
A quick look at the lounges your contacts are hosting or speaking in right now, plus Rabt's own always-on lounges.
Can my contacts see which lounges I join?
You decide. In Profile, open Lounge activity to choose who can see it (your contacts, your contacts except some, or nobody) and whether only when you host or speak. People in the same lounge always see you there.
Your account
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile, then Delete my account. We text you a code to confirm. Your account closes at once and is deleted for good after 30 days. The Delete your account page explains what is deleted and kept.
I deleted my account by mistake.
Sign back in with the same number within 30 days, and the app offers to restore your account. After 30 days it can’t be restored.
I changed my phone number.
Rabt can't move an account to a new number yet. You can sign up again with the new number as a new account. Signing out of the old account deletes its chats from your phone.
